One of the school nurses would be available on request. They provide training and advice to staff to ensure children's medical needs are met. The school nurse is able to provide parents with advice on issues including but not limited to: sleep, toilet training, healthy eating and general advice and support to parents. Their role also includes safeguarding and health promotion.

Speech and Language Therapy (SLT)

rodney speech therapist

We have a speech and language therapist that works with children across Rodney House School. She works alongside our Communication Lead to support the development of children's communication skills. Parent workshops and training for staff are delivered across the school year.

Occupational Therapy (OT)

Our occupational therapist works with children who display sensory difficulties which can impact upon their day to day activities and behaviour. They support the class team to find and plan for children's optimum level of arousal. This can assist them to cope better with sensory stressors, enhance engagement, attention and communication and increasing potential for learning.

Food Group

Guided by advice from our occupational therapist, we offer food group sessions to those children who struggle with eating. Whether it be a limited diet or a physical or sensory issue, these groups support children by introducing different foods without the expectation to eat them.

Music Sessions

We offer music sessions at Rodney House. These music sessions develop children's communication, listening and concentration skills. It also helps to develop physical, sensory and cognitive skills as they interact with instruments and sounds. Ultimately, the purpose of the music sessions is to make contact and connections with individuals who may find communication difficult.
