Rodney House Specialist Support School

Specialist Support School and Outreach Service

  1. RHOSEY Outreach

Rodney House provides an outreach service to families and settings of children with SEND aged 0-5 across the city.

RHOSEY outreach for families provide support directly to children through individual and group work. The outreach for families team work with families who have a child aged between 0-5 years old not in a setting who meet referral criteria.

RHOSEY Outreach for Settings role is to work with practitioners from Early Years settings throughout Manchester in an outreach capacity, offering advice and support in their work with children who have been identified as having additional needs.

Together we offer training to practitioners in Early Years Settings and School Nurseries in areas such as:

  • Working with children with SEND
  • The role of the SENCO
  • Supporting and managing behaviour
  • Supporting effective communication
  • Working with children with Downs Syndrome
  • This year we are offering the Early Years SENCO award training to Manchester SENCO's

We deliver termly Early Years SENCO Networks covering a range of topics and updates to support EY SEND practice.

Our service is part of a city wide initiative involving the Primary and High Specialist Support Schools and other specialist provisions.

The service is highly valued throughout the Local Authority as shown by the high demand for the service and the very positive evaluations of work already carried out.

 The RHOSEY approach

  • Partnership with parents, carers and other professionals with a commitment to inclusion.
  • Empowering parents and settings to build on a child’s strengths using a positive approach.
  • Using small steps to support learning.
  • Learning through play and having fun.
  • Working together and celebrating achievements with the child and their family.

RHOSEY has a long and successful track record of supporting settings and families of pre-school children with significant developmental delay or challenging behaviour.

The RHOSEY team has a wealth of experience in understanding, recognising, and developing the individual needs of children.

Working in partnership

RHOSEY is a partnership between the parent, child and or setting. For RHOSEY to be effective, parents and settings must be committed to carrying out agreed activities, strategies and actions consistently and on a regular basis.

RHOSEY is at its most effective when the RHOSEY team works closely with all those involved with the child, for example, Therapists, Health Visitors, Educational Psychologists and Early Years Settings.  This helps to ensure that everyone works towards shared common goals.
