The School Day
School starts at 9am and finishes at 3pm.
Each class has their own individual timetable which can be found in the classes section.
Here are some different sessions that children may experience during a typical day.
Dough Disco and Write Dance
|
At school we use Dough Disco and Write Dance as fun, movement-based sessions that help children develop the early physical, sensory and communication foundations they need for learning — especially for writing, dressing, using tools, and regulating their bodies. Dough Disco involves children using playdough alongside music and simple actions such as squeezing, poking, rolling, cutting, pressing and squashing. Write Dance uses big, rhythmical movements (often with music) before moving into smaller, table-top mark-making. Children might swirl shaving foam, draw big circles in the air, or follow patterns with both hands. Large arm and shoulder movements strengthen the muscles needed for writing. It supports coordination, balance and body awareness and prepares children for controlled hand movements on paper.
Sensory Story |
|||||
Sensory stories are used to help children with Autism and speech and language delay understand the world in a way that suits how they learn best. Many children find spoken language alone difficult to process, so sensory stories combine simple words with touch, sound, movement and visuals to make information clearer and more meaningful.
By experiencing a story through their senses, children are better able to understand and remember what is being taught. Sensory stories support communication by repeating key words and actions, help reduce anxiety by explaining events in a calm and predictable way, and encourage attention and engagement through enjoyable sensory experiences. They also allow children to take part without pressure to speak, meeting them at their own level.
